Hi guys, how's your day going? Thanks a lot for stopping by once again. Obviously, this is not the best of the lot but you still visit this little girl's blog to read through;thanks a whole lot!!
Allow me to sound cliched; Thank God it's Friday!!!!!!! Every-time i say that on my radio show,i just roll my eyes immediately because i honestly think people are tired of that line right now. Maybe we should come up with a different phrase then. Meanwhile, while you're yelling TGIF, your employer will sure not want to spoil your fun because by Monday morning, he/she will also yell TGIM (Thank God it's Monday, your butts is back at work).
ITWWAH?(Is that why we are here) Well I'm sorry i just had to digress a little bit. While growing up (I didn't have the best of childhood by the way, might share some with you as time goes on),the only reason i always looked forward to weekends was because school closed(s) by 1300hrs and there were no extra moral lessons.. I also loved the fact that i would go to my cousins house(they lived next street) and would watch TV/VHS(my mum had a black and white TV that worked whenever it chose to). My cousins had a big color TV and we would also watch Yoruba movies and cartoons/Telematch and all. Saturdays were fun too because my cousins had a constant meal for Saturday breakie;and that was Pap and Moi Moi (in the leaf o);i always loved that though.
I also loved the fact that Sundays were fun,we would go to church together (Arch Bishop Vinning Memorial Church) and right after, eat rice and stew for lunch. Then some 'good uncles' would come around to see my Uncle and settle us afterward.
After my Primary school education,i moved to Ogun state for my secondary education(boarding house) so weekends weren't too amazing to me except i had more than enough cash at hand.
But nowadays, people scream weekend like its a 1wk break. It's not even up to 3days people!!!! I love weekends but i can honestly do without them. Most people that look forward to the weekend rarely enjoy it. Don't scream, allow me break it down for you.
Friday-You close late from work say 8pm,get home say 9pm(subject to where on lives o!). You get home and feel like clubbing. You get back say 5am the following morning.
Saturday-You're already knocked out for the most part of Saturday(cos of last night). Let's assume a friend of yours is getting married that same Saturday, you decide to attend, get back home say 7pm and start preparing for church the next day. Sunday-Right after church, you start preparing for Almighty Monday, then sleep for most part of the day. What if there are a couple of Premiership matches? Then, may God help you because I can't.
I know a lot of us don't operate with the above, but let's talk people,do we really enjoy our weekends like that? I personally think the weekend is highly overrated jare...
P.S : While you're still disagreeing with me,enjoy my Friday/weekend track; Lupe Fiasco- The Show Goes On....
Do have a fab weekend ahead of you!!!!!

The Workplace....
There's nothing worse than working/slaving on a job and you being under-appreciated. A friend of mine is going through so much at work and i feel this is the best way i can reach out to her and let her know that if the world doesn't appreciate her, well i do. She feels so under-appreciated at work, she feels she's been victimized at work and all.
The first thing that came to my mind was 'people who make life unbearable for others,how do they feel afterward? Do they feel a sense of victory after that? Do they feel bad about it?(i doubt it tho). Employers need to understand certain things;
You're not doing your employee a favor! Yes,we all know there are no jobs per se in Nigeria but you don't run a charity home so don't think you're paying me for the fun of it. I work for you and i think i DEMAND some respect if you don't think i deserve it.
If your employee isn't doing something right, call him/her to order.Help him/her to help your company otherwise, you will be at the losing end.If she's not ready to change, please fire her. Don't add unnecessary sentiments to issues.
I once worked with a private TV station for 1week (you heard me correctly,1 week!!!).The Chairman was verbally cursing everyone of us. Using demeaning words, cursing in Yoruba (you should have an idea of what i mean by now). And he'll say 'if you leave today,50 of your type will be at my gates by tomorrow morning.I'm doing you a favor by employing you OK? Then i said to myself, this man will send me to a shrink real quick.I ran away before he could say Jack Robinson. He called me afterward begging me to come back and all,and that after all we all have our flaws and i should accept him for 'who he is'. *like he was my boyfriend or something*
It's not like we all have it smooth at work;in fact far from it. My place of work isn't the best either (in fact not close to amazing). But i just believe if your employer doesn't appreciate what you do,if your employer feels he/she is doing you a favor by paying you;i guess it's high time you had a rethink about the place. How do you help yourself out when you facing so much stress at work?
I'm not the type who should be advising people on how to persevere when it comes to issues like this (I'm too restless for that). But if you're reading this and you aren't having the best of time at work, talk to God about it.That's the only person that appreciates you. Only God knows your true value.
I'll leave you with this line......I know I'm important, because God doesn't create garbage!
Love you to the bones!!!!!

What's with the accents? Abeg park well....
Someone just tweeted 'some radio presenters and their funny accents, putting r in everything. There is a God'. Yeah right, there is!!!!
I think Nigerians should quit breathing down on presenters necks and get real for God's sake. We're yet to deduce the difference between good English and 'American or British accent'. To start with, people who criticize presenters all the time obviously have never heard a Brit talk before. Because if you have, you sure won't equate some people's diction with foreign accents. Presenters are not meant to speak everyday English. They pronounce words the 'correct' way. And obviously, some people find that absurd. I was speaking with my Uncle the other day and i pronounced 'Challenge' the right way. He replied saying 'o ti join bandwagon awon oloyinbo abi? Kini chaaalleenge?' It's even more distasteful when fellow broadcasters and literates are involved in this annoying criticism. Of course i won't say i don't hear some broadcasters speak like they've got a candies stuck in their mouths all because they want to sound foreign.Putting r in every word. One even pronounced 'egg' saying 'errgg'. But who are we to blame? The society. Yes i said it! We all tuned to Coolfm when they started with the foreign accents and all. We all dumped Raypower/Radio Nigeria/Star FM/Eko FM because they were too 'Nigerian' for us. So everyone started learning how to sound foreign. Now,that 'foreign' is second skin to some people. I know of a particular radio presenter who handles the afternoon belt in a popular radio station in Lagos who has never lived in the UK/US but speaks good English, nice diction and all. Some people listen to her and say she's got 'a British accent'. She has a good diction and should be appreciated instead of misconstruing her good diction for 'fake accent'. No one has ever questioned that;not even her employers. After all that's what they want. But if another presenter speaks that way, people get their knickers in a twist.
I know an American/British accent when i hear one and it's not my fault that some people can't tell the difference between good diction and faking an accent.
Oh!How about our artistes? You're yet to observe that right? Do they have 6 heads? A good percentage of them came up with accents right after Banky W relocated to Nigeria. They even sound worse when their diction is poor. You disagree? Listen to Jaywon/Tony Tetuila/P-Square and a lot of them without bias.
Sure they need to take a cue from Tuface Idibia who doesn't care if he sounds like a cow herder or not..LOL (with due respect to him and the mallams)
But on a serious note,I'm not down with the subjective criticisms. It's being mischievous on your part when you tell me i sound British/American when i obviously don't.
To those people out there who appreciate a Nigerian that speaks good English without any form of bias;i say thanks and may God bless you. And to that illiterate who feels every good diction sounds 'American/British' to him/her; don't you think you need a vacation? And quit watching those pirated American movies!!!
On a final note, let me ask you this, what is Nigerian English? How is it supposed to 'sound'?How should a Nigerian sound/speak? Oh,you've never thought of it? Alright, please do and get back to me...

Happy New Year !!!!!!!!! *Like it's new*
I feel really silly typing right now. I've not blogged in a very loooonnnngggggg time;i mean for about 7months or thereabout!!! Well, good to be back anyway,so I'm saying HAPPY NEW YEAR!! And stop rolling your eyes jare..Lol
How's the new year been? Nothing different though but I've just been through hell and back in the past 40days i think... Health-wise,work-wise,family-wise and all. My relationship was on the verge of breaking up but i thank God for his mercies.
Now,why exactly am i blogging? I just need to talk to that person whose relationship is on the verge of breaking up....
To start with;there's no perfect relationship, so don't get it twisted please. That 'amazing couple' you admire sooo much won't be so amazing after they tell you what they are going through. So bring yourself outta that bauble and face reality. My boyfriend really hurt me mid-January and i thought that incident was going to break us. Fortunately for us,that incident actually turned out to be our strong point. I remember a friend of mine telling me to cut things off and i thought to myself;Nike, haven't you been through worse? I've hurt him before and honestly he forgave me within minutes! Life isn't perfect so your imperfect relationship isn't new. Work on making the best out of it,talk to God every time. Though in some cases,it just won't work out (it means you guys aren't just meant for each other). We all want that Prince-charming to come take us and all that but quit watching too many movies and reading Ovation magazines(LOL) and face reality.
I'll never advise anyone to quit a relationship; you alone know when to walk away and you sure need no outside push.. I'll not want to be referred to as 'she advised me to break up with him'. I'll like to help out with few tips that can help you with your relationship... *i feel like an agony aunt honestly*
* Be truthful-they say there's one thing about telling the truth, you don't have to remember anything.. If there's one thing that scares me a lot,it's distrust. I'd rather tell the truth and allow us have a brawl over it than tell a lie to avoid a brawl.
* It's not all about money-We all know money talks and bullshit walks. But i tell you one thing, money isn't it at all... It amazes me a lot when i hear girls talk about money. 'Any dude wey no get money, make him no come my side at all'.I'm always quick to reply, 'you get am? Do you have money?'It's true opposites attract. A poor girl will always be looking for a rich husband. But i tell you this, those rich boys don't even appreciate social climbers.
* Love still exists- Yes it does! If you aren't sure if you love your boyfriend/girlfriend or not,I'm sorry, may God help you because i can't. I'm a strong advocate of LOVE FIRST and i will also advise you also to put love first.
* Trust- Even when you're lying,i believe you! It doesn't make you stupid, but it goes to show you trust your partner. Some people can't recognize trust even if it slapped them in the face. The 'i-know-you're-lying-but-i-won't-say-anything' type.
* Understanding- Things can't be smooth at all times. What could be more joyful than a partner who understands? You should be able to understand when i chose to keep silent and when i decide to jump on sofas...
* Be friends- That says it all; be your partner's best friend. You should be able to do something stupid before him/her without actually looking stupid. Your partner should love warts and all....(with my smelly farts and all..LOL). You man should be able to tell you his financial status;'baby,I'm a little bit down financially' instead of acting all irritable around you. Does he see you as his friend? Think about it love......
Hope this helps out though.....
Thanks a whole lot for checking my blog out... Talk to you real soon (I promise to be constant this time around) *wink wink*
